Ottertalk #27 Dr. J. Curtis Zella from Veterinary Village, Necropsy, the value for the Breed, the Owner and the Researcher. Living with an Otterhound brings all of us great joy. We know there are at least a few health concerns that can effect our breed: hip dysplasia, Glannzman’s Thromblasthenia and Epilepsy. The first two are easily identified through testing but seizures have many causes. There are other maladies that even through testing, we can’t be sure of what is going on with the dog. When there is access to necropsy, we can gain some clarity about the cause of death and also learn more about the entire system of the dog explaining symptoms expressed during life but not understood. There is a certain comfort received by the owner when they know they made the right decision when needing to select euthanasia as an option. Learn from Dr. Zella the benefits for the dog community of Necropsy, how and where to access it and what benefits it can provide to the Otterhound breed.
