The Otterhound Hunt Pack at Work

The Otterhound breed standard is designed to emphasize the structure and  attributes needed to hunt otters successfully on land and in rushing rivers. This video was taken by Karen Otto of the USA Greyfield Otterhound Kennel in the 1980's while she was on a visit to Lockerbie, Scotland observing the Dumfriesshire hunt pack with Hunt Master John Bell-Irving and his Huntsman Tommy Harrison.  Since most of us are unable to see the Otterhound doing what he was originally bred to do, we are pleased to be able to share with members and judges this worthwhile video of a pack. Upon observing the dog working, you can see why our standard is described as it is for we truly want a hound that would be able to do his job.
